Kelsey!!! I was just thinking the other day about Fat Monica and how screwed up that whole running “joke” was — and how blind I was to it until recently. Like you, my young self saw Fat Monica as a sign of hope that I could one day be thin and therefore worthy of Chandler’s love and attention, instead of his ridicule. (“How many cameras were ON you?!” has rung through my head so many times.) We have to do better as a society. Thank you so much for this piece.
