I recently reconnected with one of the women from my 2017 podcast, Make America Relate Again, and got to ask her how her views have changed (or not) since. We had such a wonderful back and forth - turns out her views have changed a lot, and I was right in intuiting back in 2017 that the recent loss of her mother and the ensuing revelation that she was a closeted Republican had more to do with her supporting Trump than any policy position. But it wouldn't have been possible without that conversation back in 2017 when we were on opposite ends of the spectrum - and chose to talk about it compassionately and respectfully.

Bravo, Jamie, for both the conversation you recount in this piece and the piece itself. THIS IS WHAT WE NEED MOST RIGHT NOW. These conversations are what will sway the election. No more name-calling and writing people off. No more calling people out. We need to call them IN.
